The Mission and Vision of the Berrien Springs Public Schools Community Education Program is to provide education that challenges students to become lifelong learners and to acquire knowledge and skills necessary to be productive citizens in our changing global community. A variety of programs exist under the auspices of the Berrien Springs Adult and Community Education Office. English as a Second Language (ESL)--a program that attracts and retains a large number of foreign-born adults, primarily spouses of students attending Andrews University. Each year an average of over 100 people participate from as many as 29 countries, speaking 15 languages. Citizenship Training Free evening child care services are available for students in the above adult education programs. Community enrichment classes such as computer training, foreign languages, health and fitness, and crafts respond to community requests. We are accomplishing our mission when our students are: Effective communicators through effective listening, speaking, reading, writing, and non-verbal communication Self-directed thinkers able to assess options, establish priorities, and plan for the future Responsible and productive citizens in a global community who know the issues, cooperate with others, take responsibility for their actions, adapt easily, possess realistic personal standards, and respect individuality and diversity Lifelong learners who are committed to learning in an ever-changing world |
