Hello Families!
This is the official launch of our Remote Learning!  I have all assignments on your child’s Seesaw. However, I also suggest that you go to the Mars Elementary website to see the grade level plans because they have options for Encore Classes (specials-music, art, technology, P.E.), Social Emotional Learning and Science and Social Studies.   To get to the grade level plans go to www.marselementary.org There is a tab on the far right:  Remote Learning Plans Click on that tab and find your child’s grade level and the current week.
MATH:  All of the math that is assigned to your child’s grade level from his/her math teacher has been assigned to your child through Seesaw.
DAILY READING:  Kindergarten/1st grade:  read 20 minutes daily 2nd grade:  read 30 minutes daily
RAZ-KIDS:  In addition to reading the designated time.  I would like each child to complete at least 2 books in Raz-Kids.  That means you do all 3 parts of the books (listen, read and take the quiz).
PHONICS:  This is varied per grade level.  The assignments are in Seesaw.
FIRST GRADE Sight words:  The sight words for this week are the same as grade level plans (us, three, our, better, hold, buy, funny)
WRITING:  1st grade is using Pebblego.com this week.  The School-wide login information is: Username:  engaged Password: learning  Individual grade level assignments have been sent to your child’s Seesaw account.

Please remember that all the activities are for the WEEK.  Your child can complete them at a pace that works for him/her and your family.  Previously, I was adding new activities daily. That was while we were beginning our Seesaw journey and nothing more will be assigned throughout the week.   I hope this isn’t too confusing. I would appreciate your feedback.  It is tricky for me since I am posting for Kindergarten-2nd grade. I am trying to keep the information fairly simple while giving enough information for each grade level to understand what they need to do.

On 3/13/2020:  A work packet was sent home with each child filled with grade level practice.  I also added items specific to our room.  The expectation would be that you would complete the pages in the packet.  The following online resources have been chosen as meaningful opportunities but they aren't required.  If the closure continues, these might change from opportunities to actual assignments expected.

Freckle (wisha4): has both math and reading activities assigned to your child.

Education.com (
class code: GC3UDB):  there are grade level assignments as well as other skills that your child needs additional practice with epic:  there are a lot of books available here.  There are some "audio" books that
will read to your child.  Reading and LISTENING to a story will improve your child's reading skills.  Although epic usually charges families a fee to access it from home, during the school closure, they are offering free access with a teacher's invite.  Therefore, I have sent you an invitation to your email.  Sign up through the email.  Some have said they are asking for a credit card.  That should only be happening  if parents are signing up without the invitation but if they do ask for a credit card, do not sign up and please let me know.

Raz kids:  This is a site of leveled books that I have assigned specifically for your child.  They will listen to a story.  Then, read the story and finally answer some questions about that story.  I have sent each of you a copy of your child's login information.  If you need me to send it again, please let me know.

I have also sent the www.scholastic.com/learnathome site with great activities to do.  There is a different activity for each day/week that covers the last 3 weeks.  The activities are broken down by grade levels:  Pre-K/K and 1st/2nd

Stay healthy!
Mrs. Wishart
