During the closure period here is an overview of how to facilitate
learning at home for the classes your student is in.
learning at home for the classes your student is in.
Mrs. Holloway’s Classroom
Dear Parents, Our class will access all of the learning opportunities with Schoology on their chromebook device. The students will go to the course titled Quest only. Here is an overview of what will be uploaded to help you assist your student at home:
I will upload a learning calendar for you weekly that gives you instructions on where to go, what folder to use, and what learning activity needs to be complete for that day. There will be a check in folder where students can have a discussion with teachers and students about how they are feeling that day using the Zones of Regulation. There will be a fun folder that includes log in instructions for Epic and websites that could extend students learning if they have completed the assigned activities. Most Important- There will be a learning folder for each week that will be titled Learning Activities for Week of….., this will include all videos, assignments, assessments, and activities the students will need to complete. All of the material will be provided in order for your student. We will also be providing videos on Daily Living activities, Spelling, and Movement activities that the students can practice at home. All of these resources will be included in the folder for that week. If you do not have a chromebook device at home, we will provide login instructions for additional resources that can be accessed from a cell phone.
All student learning and chromebook usage will be monitored during this time. Please do not hesitate to reach out at any time via email or cell phone communication, I will assist you with whatever you need. I hope all of you are healthy during this time and please take care. We could not make it through this time without your support.

Dear Parents,
In order to facilitate my students' learning I have created a page on google classroom. This is where I will be posting weekly assignments and assignment descriptions. Here is an overview of what each week will look like.
Each week I will post a google slide presentation that will have a slide for each day. The slides will be titled with the days of the week so that students know what they should be doing for each day. I have also added a check in slide that will go before each day’s assignments. Check in was a very important part of our day at school. Each student will use this as a way to tell me how they are feeling by using “color zones”. Since this was an important part of our routine I wanted to keep it going. Students will only be asked to go to other sites through the use of links that will all be embedded in the google slides presentation. I do not want them navigating anymore then they have to. There will be math assignments that are assigned through a program called Khan academy. It gives step by step teaching videos and then asks the students to complete some questions to show understanding. The links will always be posted on the google classroom page so that students do not need to know how to find the right lesson on Khan academy.
Ps.. This is a learning curve for all of us. I have not experienced teaching online before but I am very excited to learn how! I am always open to answering any concerns or questions you might have. I know we will get through this together!
Sincerely, Miss Rockhill
In the CI classrooms at Berrien Springs Middle School we take pride in individualized instruction, character development, social skills, and service.
Each student enrolled in the program is taught core instruction at their academic instructional level. The students are grouped to be able to receive instruction in a small group that allows them to learn and progress at a pace that is appropriate for them. The students feel both academically challenged and confident in what they are learning in the school setting.
Berrien Springs Public Schools is a one-to-one district where each student is issued a chromebook device. This provides our students with a blended learning experience. Our focus includes supporting students’ use of technology, cultivating digital citizenship, and choice in their learning.
This year we have focused on incorporating social and emotional learning with our students. We have introduced the Zones of Regulation to help students develop emotional and behavioral regulation skills. Students are able to categorize their feelings, communicate how these feelings impact their actions, and develop coping strategies to do their best learning. In addition to this curriculum we have the students practicing meditation as a coping skill strategy through the use of Calm Classroom.
At the Middle School our students lead the recycling program for the building. Every week a group of students collects and packs the recycling for each teacher in the building. This is a great way for students to show how important and positive it is to serve their school community.
