Berrien Springs Public Schools seeks Renewal of Non-Homestead Millage in the May 2, 2023 Election

The Renewal is for the Operations of Berrien Springs Public Schools
- The renewal is for non-homestead properties, not your primary/principal residence.
- The renewal is for (5) five years.
- The renewal will not increase anyone's property tax. Business property owners and second homeowners will pay the same amount.
- A "no" vote will not lower a primary residence homeowner's taxes, nor will a "yes" vote increase taxes.
What is Non-Homestead property?
Non-homestead represents industrial, commercial, and some agricultural property and “second homes.” It does not include a family's primary residence.
Primarily, who pays the renewal tax?
- Owners of commercial or business properties in BSPS district.
- Owners of second or rental homes in BSPS district.

BERRIEN SPRINGS PUBLIC SCHOOLS OPERATING MILLAGE RENEWAL PROPOSAL
This proposal will allow the school district to continue to levy the statutory rate not to exceed 18 mills on all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, required for the school district to receive its revenue per pupil foundation allowance and renews millage that will expire with the 2023 tax levy.
Shall the currently authorized millage rate limitation of 19.1642 mills ($19.1642 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) on the amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, in Berrien Springs Public Schools, Berrien County, Michigan, be renewed for a period of 5 years, 2024 to 2028, inclusive, to provide funds for operating purposes; the estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and 18 mills are levied in 2024 is approximately $2,415,215 (this is a renewal of millage that will expire with the 2023 tax levy).
