Berrien Springs Public Schools SMS Text Messaging Privacy Practices

Berrien Springs Public Schools (the “District”) is committed to protecting the privacy of its students, parents, staff, and community members. This Privacy Policy specifically explains how the District collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards your information when you opt-in to receive SMS text message communications from the District.

Information We Collect
When you enroll a student or complete a District form, the District may collect:
Your mobile phone number.
Your name and relationship to the school district (e.g., parent, guardian, staff member).
Your preferences regarding types of notifications (e.g., emergency alerts, school closures, general announcements).

How We Use Your Information
When you opt-in to SMS text message communications, the District will use information collected,  including your mobile phone number, solely for school district operational communications, such as: 
Emergency notifications, weather-related cancellations, and school closures.
Attendance alerts and critical student updates.
Notifications of student progress.
District-wide announcements, event reminders, and school-specific news.

Strict Limitation On Data Sharing (10DLC Compliance)
We respect your privacy. The District does not share, sell, or rent your mobile phone number or any personal information collected through SMS messaging with third parties for their marketing purposes. Your mobile number will only be used by the District as you have authorized, including to send you the SMS messages you have opted in to receive.
Important Carrier Disclosure: Mobile information, user data, or text messaging opt-in data and consent will not be shared, sold, or rented to any third parties, affiliates, or partners for marketing or promotional purposes. Your mobile data is used solely for District operational communications.

Opt-Out and Support Instructions
You may cancel SMS text message communications at any time.

To Opt-Out: Reply STOP to any text message you receive from the District. After you send the SMS message "STOP,"  the District will send you an SMS text message to confirm that you have been unsubscribed. After this confirmation, you will no longer receive SMS messages from the District unless you re-opt-in to receive SMS text messaging communications.

Message Frequency and Rates
Message frequency varies based on school district events, calendars, and emergencies. Standard message and data rates may apply from your mobile carrier for any messages sent to you from the District and to the District from you.  If you have any questions about your text plan or data plan, it is best to contact your wireless provider.
