Creative Writing Classes    Fall 2025

All students must complete a project for these classes.

  • Format: Online and Google Classroom **Note: This will be a different Google Classroom than is required by your mentor, but works in a similar fashion.  The class CODE will be sent to your email address the week before class starts.  
  • Day/Time: Once a Week / Asynchronous for 8 weeks **Information and Assignments will be posted on Monday mornings and you will have a week to complete each task/assignment when it works best for you as long as you keep up with deadlines.
  • Start date: September 8th, ends November 2nd
  • Additional registration on-site is not required.


Creative Writing
Grades 6-12

This 8-week online course is designed to enhance your creative writing skills through a series of fun and engaging writing exercises. You'll explore various styles and formats, including vignettes, flash fiction, and playwriting. Each week introduces a new focus to help develop your voice as a writer.

Advanced Creative Writing
Grades 6-12

This 8-week online course is designed for students who already have experience with creative writing and want to take their work to the next level. Students will have the opportunity to choose the writing formats and genres they want to focus on—such as poetry, short stories, flash fiction, playwriting, screenwriting or novel excerpts. Weekly assignments will be based on personal writing goals, instructor feedback, and individual areas of interest.

*Please note: it is important to make as informed a decision as possible when choosing your student's Community Resource classes. Most locations will allow a student to drop a class after one meeting, at no charge if it wasn't a good fit for the student, but not all. Some classes plan ahead based on the number that have signed up and have purchased materials, hired teachers, etc. and there might be a fee for class time or materials given to the student if the student drops after one or two meetings. The school cannot pay for classes that students do not complete, so choose wisely; if you do not take the class off of your student's schedule by the deadline, you may be asked to pay for the class time incurred prior to dropping the class.
