No-Sew Fun with Felt
Grades: K-12

Course Description: This fun and beginner-friendly course introduces young students to the world of fiber arts—no needles required! Using colorful felt and child-safe fabric glue, students will learn to cut, layer, and assemble shapes into creative projects they can proudly share at home.

Each week, students complete a hands-on craft such as felt animals, bookmarks, garlands, picture frames, and holiday decorations. The projects are carefully designed to support fine motor development, spatial awareness, and artistic expression. Weekly photo submissions and simple reflection questions encourage confidence and communication.

This course is perfect for creative learners who enjoy building with their hands. All materials are easy to use at home, and parent supervision is encouraged during cutting and gluing. By the end of the course, students will have a colorful portfolio of felt creations—and the joy of crafting something all on their own!

Sew Fun with Felt
Grades: 6-12 (Younger students may enroll with supervision and parental approval)

Course Description: In this hands-on introductory sewing course, students will learn the foundations of hand stitching through fun, felt-based projects designed to build confidence and creativity. Using just a few simple tools and materials, learners will master three essential hand stitches: the running stitch, whip stitch, and ladder stitch. These stitches will be applied to a variety of projects that gradually increase in complexity – from a no-sew felt bookmark and a sampler square to a stuffed toy, holiday ornament, and a final personalized felt creation.

Throughout the course, students will complete weekly assignments by watching instructional videos and reading short lessons, then submitting photos of their finished work for feedback. Emphasis is placed on developing fine motor skills, pattern-following, and the creative problem solving that sewing naturally encourages.

No sewing machine is required – this course focuses on traditional hand stitching with felt, which is easy to cut, doesn’t fray, and is perfect for beginners. All instructional materials are included as part of the supplied materials listed in the syllabus. This course is ideal for first-time stitchers and young makers looking for a creative, skill-building experience they can enjoy from home!

*Please note: it is important to make as informed a decision as possible when choosing your student's Community Resource classes. Most locations will allow a student to drop a class after one meeting, at no charge if it wasn't a good fit for the student, but not all. Some classes plan ahead based on the number that have signed up and have purchased materials, hired teachers, etc. and there might be a fee for class time or materials given to the student if the student drops after one or two meetings. The school cannot pay for classes that students do not complete, so choose wisely; if you do not take the class off of your student's schedule by the deadline, you may be asked to pay for the class time incurred prior to dropping the class.
