BSPS Announces the Board Appointment of Mr. Steve Shunkwiler

Berrien Springs Public Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Steve Shunkwiler to our Board of Education.  At a special Board of Education meeting on June 25, 2025, Mr. Shunkwiler was appointed to fill the vacant position resulting from Mrs. Pat DeLong’s resignation on May 30, 2025.

Mr. Shunkwiler brings valuable financial expertise and leadership experience to our district. He currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer at Kalsee Credit Union and holds a board position with the Southwest Chapter of the Michigan Credit Union League. A proud graduate of Berrien Springs High School, he and his wife, Julie, are the parents of three Berrien Springs graduates: Sam, Jack, and Abbie. His family spans several generations of Berrien Springs alumni.  In his spare time, Mr. Shunkwiler enjoys hunting, fishing, and disc golf. 

As the newest board member, Mr. Shunkwiler shared, “With the district having such an impact on my family, I am passionate about giving back to the community and the school.  I believe that strong schools are the foundation of a thriving community, and I am committed to supporting policies and initiatives that ensure every student has access to high-quality education.”
