BSPS Recognizes Board of Education During School Board Recognition Month
January marks School Board Recognition Month, and Berrien Springs Public Schools is honoring the dedicated individuals who serve on its Board of Education. The members include President Erica Molden, Vice President Mike Shembarger, Secretary Stephanie James, Treasurer Steve Shunkwiler, Board Trustee Lee Davidson, Board Trustee Paul Toliver, and Board Trustee Justin Turner. These community leaders play a critical role in shaping the vision, policies, and priorities that guide the district's schools and support student learning and achievement.
The role of a board member is complex and sometimes demanding, requiring thoughtful decision-making, collaboration, and often long hours. Amid today's educational challenges, it's important to pause and acknowledge the dedication and care these board members bring to their work.
Superintendent Dr. Thomas Bruce shared, “Our Board of Education continues to deepen its impact through ongoing work with Quantum, and we are excited to see that commitment expand with added leadership courses through MASB. Through this process, board members are strengthening their understanding of who they are as a team and the intricate ways they function together in service of our district. Their participation in school improvement meetings, classroom observations through Board Walks, and Board of Education committee work reflects a genuine dedication to learning, collaboration, and continuous growth. This month, we proudly recognize the Board for its focused work to enhance the student experience for all learners, their families, and our community. Thank you to our Board of Education for leading with purpose and care.”
School Board Recognition Month provides an opportunity to express our appreciation for these leaders and to better understand the vital role local school boards play in preparing today’s students to become tomorrow’s leaders. Berrien Springs Public Schools encourages the entire community to join in thanking our Board of Education members for their commitment, leadership, and continued support of our district.
