Sylvester Elementary Receives Recognition Awards

from MDE's MTSS Technical Assistance Center
Berrien Springs Public Schools is excited to announce that Sylvester Elementary School has been awarded MiMTSS (Michigan’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports) Recognition for the 2023-2024 school year. This recognition, granted by Michigan’s MTSS Technical Assistance Center, celebrates schools that are committed to providing a supportive learning environment through effective data utilization and impactful implementation of MTSS practices.
Sylvester Elementary received recognition in two areas of the MTSS framework:
MTSS Data Utilization – Sylvester Elementary earned the MTSS Data Utilization award, recognizing the school’s dedication to collecting and using MTSS fidelity data to guide decision-making and refine support systems. This proactive approach ensures that the needs of all students are met with targeted interventions.
MTSS Implementation and Impact – Silver Level, Tier 1 Behavior – Sylvester Elementary achieved Silver-level recognition for MTSS Implementation and Impact at Tier 1 in the area of Behavior. This award underscores the school’s success in promoting a positive behavioral environment supported by data-driven strategies and community involvement.
Earning Silver status reflects our dedication to using data-driven decision-making and implementing effective Tier 1 practices that benefit every child in our school. These efforts align with our district's focus on the ROCKS (Respect, Ownership, Compassion, Knowledge, and Success) values within our learning community. In addition, Sylvester Elementary has implemented the Rockership Student Leadership program, the Kindness Crew, monthly assembly celebrations focused on ROCKS values, a Student of the Month program, and a rewards system for good behavior that includes opportunities for students to participate in field trips throughout the school year.
Congratulations to Sylvester Elementary for this achievement!
