BSPS Announces the One Berrien Award Recipients for February
Ms. Lori Jo Hyche and Mr. Daniel Roberts
Berrien Springs Public Schools is proud to recognize Mr. Daniel Roberts and Ms. Lori Jo Hyche as the One Berrien Award recipients for February. This honor celebrates staff members who consistently go above and beyond to support our students, schools, and the Shamrock community.
Mr. Daniel Roberts, High School Math Teacher
Mr. Roberts is not only an outstanding educator but also a trusted friend to his students. He greets each day with a warm, welcoming attitude, often starting class with a smile and a cheerful “welcome to Algebra 2” and consistently brings positive energy into the room. He creates a learning environment where students feel comfortable, supported, and understood. Whether it’s adjusting a lesson plan based on student feedback, encouraging questions without frustration, or recognizing when students need a mental break, Mr. Roberts always puts relationships and student well-being first.
One of his students shared, “Mr. Roberts never fails to bring positive energy to the classroom. He teaches in a way that keeps the students engaged and motivated. He does this by encouraging us to achieve level 3s and 4s on assignments, even when we’re hesitant to go above and beyond. Mr. Roberts understands when students are having a bad day, and he has the ability to turn it around. His presence truly makes a difference in the classroom and the building as a whole.”
Ms. Lori Jo Hyche, Bus Driver
Ms. Lori Jo has been an incredible presence in the lives of our children and family. She starts each day with a warm smile and creates a safe, welcoming environment on the bus that feels like home. From helping students transition smoothly to a new school, to being a source of comfort during challenging times, she has shown unmatched patience and compassion.
One of her parents mentioned, “Our mornings wouldn’t be the same without her. Our kids genuinely look forward to the bus ride because of the connection they have built with her. Ms. Lori Jo has gone above and beyond, not only ensuring safety and comfort, but also forming meaningful relationships with students and parents. She consistently shows up, checks in on our kids, and treats every child like they matter.”
Her impact extends beyond the bus. She attends school events, where her students adore her, and she is always there to cheer them on. In every way, Ms. Hyche goes above and beyond, and we are incredibly grateful for the joy, care, and consistency she brings to our children’s school experience.
Congratulations, Mr. Roberts and Ms. Hyche! Your commitment, care, and strong connection make Berrien Springs better every day. We are honored to celebrate your outstanding contributions to the success of our students.
